SHS Homecoming 2011 on November 4

From Mike Roland:

November 4, 2011 is the Stranahan/lauderdale game (note small 'l'). Game time is 7:00 pm at Lockhart Stadium in North Ft. Lauderdale.

Even though it's those people's homecoming game, we have the large tent (some of you will remember it from last year) reserved for a Stranahan Alumni Tailgate. It seems we have a connection at Lockhart! Food and soft drinks will be provided free of charge. Hopefully SHS can bring back some of the memorablia that was there last year. AND, hopefully alumni from all of Stranahan's classes can be represented again.

All I need is for people to RSVP to me so I can make sure the caterer has the right amount of food. Call 754-321-1201.

Go Dragons!
Mike

Another Luncheon - in Stuart on April 2, 2011

May 1 Update:

Hello Fellow Dragons :)

Another great time was had and for those who could not make the luncheon, you missed a good one. We had 100 people show and as usual the food and service was excellent.

The highlight of the event was the 50/50 pot. We had 2 big winners of 215.00 each. Don O'Neal and Judy Van Gorder Mazurek were the lucky recipients. :) There were 10 Outback gift certificates valued at 25.00 each given away as well. The winners of those were Don O'Neal with 2, Jeff MacNeir, Warren Smiley, Wayne Sprouse, Joyce Graff, Judy Courtney and Torchy Lawson. I apologize for not having a picture of the other two. :(

Those in attendance were: (these names are taken from the attendance sheet everyone signed in on.) Sorry, I am only printing the maiden names if I don't know or can't make out the married names.

June ? 954-709-3257, Joe Brusca, Fran Harwell Oliver, Chick Wygant, George Patten, Becky Zachem, Sandra Loria Preble, Joyce Decker Poletz, Charmaine Spando Bartanowicz, Judi Courtney Korn, Dottie Dittman Hatmaker, Donna Dittman Anderson, William Cierebiej, Sherry Johnson Pearthree, Sam Ullman, Judith Ingersol Hawkins, Allan and Trudy Tappan Richard, Sandy Grauso Guiliani, Judy Allen Williams, Lee and Nancy Faber Blake, Sandy Montgomery, Judy Ecker Malloy, Jack Malloy, Fred and Judie Castro, Ed and Pam Tison, Shirley Dye Baucom, Dennis O'Bea, Judy Van Gorder Mazurek, John and Kathy Oh, John N. Gilmore, Everett Lerch, Tom and Annette Picard Priest, Don and Darlene Sprouse Moore, Wayne Sprouse, Norman and Mignon Riley, Rick Ferraro, Bill Robertson, Jan Hofstra (Class of '66), Warren Smiley and Cathy Schmidt, Pat Craig and sister Diane Craig, Beverly Davis O'Brien, Will and Bev Bryan Hoppe, Carole Graff, Jeff and Cyndi MacNeir, Jim Miller, Don and Becki O'Neal along with kids and grand kids, Karin Kraii Wenger, Ned Gillman, Sue Huffman Camaraire, Joann Purvis Long, Joy Graff Albrektsen, Joe Roberts, David Albury, Rick Albury, George and Marlene Antones, Donna Milke Pritchard, Ron Pritchard, Sandy Harkin, Don Bradley, Ann Harvey Ottaviano, Dane Jensen, Dan Pointkowski, Torchy Lawson McClure, Mike and Carol Mucci and family, and Walter and Mickey Hanes Lee.

What makes these gatherings so much fun is each time a few more come that have never been to any or very few classmate functions since graduation. It is rewarding to us to reconnect with ones like Jack Malloy and Everett Lerch, who have never been to any classmate functions until this one. We truly hope they will continue to come to future gatherings.

Our thanks to Mike Mucci for making the arrangements for our luncheon at the Outback. Even though he has had severe back problems and operations he came thru for us. That is a TRUE Dragon. :) Thanks, Mike, for all you did.

We are planning another gathering in November of this year in Sebring, Fl. The plans are in the making even as I write this note.

I am just passing on this tidbit of info: In the event any of you have Stranahan T-Shirts that are folded and put away, I would like to encourage you to wear them out and about. Walter and I live in Lake City, Florida. I was wearing my Stranahan T-shirt when the cashier at Wal-Mart said her mother graduated from Stranahan. As it turned out, it was Charlotte East, Class of '61, who now lives in Ft. White, Florida, just down the road. We agreed to meet for lunch and once again I was wearing my Stranahan T-shirt. While I was waiting for her to get there, the hostess said her father went to Stranahan. As luck would have it, it was the daughter of Fred Castro, Class of '61. After I sent an encouraging email to him, he made it to the luncheon on 4/2/11. Moral of the story: wear your Stranahan T-shirts out and about.

Thanks for everyone's participation in the luncheons. We look forward to seeing everyone, and then some, in November, in Sebring, Florida.

Dixie Plans Glacier Park Event, September 1 - 11, 2011

February 13, 2011 Announcement:

Hi Everyone,
Some of us have been discussing a trip to Glacier Park and we are finally getting it in order. To see all about it, visit Glacier National Park.

We will meet in Glacier Park on September 1 and stay there until the 5th. While in Glacier I recommend taking the ‘red bus’ tour at least one day. There are lots of places to explore. One day we will drive up to the Canadian side and see Prince of Wales Hotel and Waterton.

Those who choose will then drive to Lake Louise, Canada, about 250 miles, and be there from September 5 thru the 8th.

**Remember: a passport is necessary to go to Canada (actually, just to return back to the States!)

September 1-5 (4 nights)
Glacier National Park
Swiftcurrent Lodge(Pinetop Motel)
Phone: 1 406 892 2525
There are other numbers you can call to book the same thing but they charge a fee and this number is the Park Concessionaire and there are no fees. You may cancel within 30 days at no charge and up to 3 days prior for a $15 charge. They are only open from 8 AM until 5 PM (Mountain time) Monday thru Friday.

September 5 - 8 (3 nights)
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada at the Deer Lodge Hotel. 1 800 661 1595

Tiana Dawson is working with us and she is giving us special rates so be sure you say you are with Stranahan or mention my name. The actual price for the least expensive room was $200 and she came down to $150 so I was pleased with that.

September 8-11
Lewistown
I live in Lewistown, Montana. Each year we hold the Chokecherry Festival the weekend after Labor Day. This year it will be September 9-11. Friday night (9th) is the Chokecherry Stomp - a $$ maker for the local college.
Saturday AM is a pancake breakfast and then the happenings begin.
There is nothing spectacular - just a small town get-together with dancers and all kinds of local talent all day long. Vendors are all along Main Street(all 5 blocks). The big event is the ‘PIT SPITTING’ contest.
Sunday is ‘What the Hay.’ This takes place over a few miles. Ranchers decorate hay bales and LOTS of people come from many miles to see them. Often makes national news. I usually go early to avoid the traffic. Those of you who have been out here have probably been to the Oxen Yoke Inn(a typical Montana bar) with great big hamburgers. There are festivities going on in the little town - homemade pie and odds and ends of other things. Anyone wanting to come to that is welcome.
It is a real small town, western experience.

I have made reservations at both places for the suggested dates.

Everyone is welcome to come to this. It is not just for Stranahan alumni. I have been having problems with my computer deleting e mail addresses. Please send this on to those who may not have received it.

Thanks,
Dixie Lee Joyner - dixie@midrivers.com

Ocala Luncheon on November 6 - Huge Success!

Hi Fellow Dragons :)!

Hail Hail The Gangs All Here - 130 in total :) !

That is what it felt like at the Outback November 6, 2010 in Ocala, Florida. We had 130 classmates and family attend the 3rd luncheon that we have had in the past year. The Outback did an outstanding job in catering to our every whim. From what we can tell, everyone seems to love going to the luncheons and reigniting their friendships with forgotten classmates.

Some classmates came from as far away as New Mexico, Texas, and Washington state. We had a 50/50 pot with two winners - Warren Smiley and Bill Robertson each won $122.25. Nice day for the winners. :)

About 30-40 classmates joined us at the RV site afterwards where we shared more stories; then about a dozen of us went out to dinner.

All in all it could not have turned out any better unless even more classmates had attended. Our thanks to everyone who came and to those who wanted to come but had to cancel at the last minute. What makes these luncheons so special is knowing that many classmates have never attended a reunion or gathering since graduation, and they are thrilled to be coming to the luncheons to reconnect with other classmates and share old times.

If all goes well, we hope to have another one in April sometime but will send out the info when it is complete. Keep checking this website for future updates.

Stranahan Dragons Luncheon, May 1, 2010

Hi All!

On May 1, 2010 the North Florida Stranahan Dragons had a luncheon at the Ivy House in Alachua, Florida. We decided to have a "gathering" since so many classmates do live in North Florida. We couldn't have asked for it to be any better. We had a total of 26 classmates in attendance and the food was excellent. Walter and Mickey Lee brought their motor home over so when the lunch was over most of us were able to gather under the awning and spend even more time together telling some pretty good stories and can Bob Edewaard tell them. :)

Another gathering is in the works for sometime in October to be held in Gainesville, Florida. Everyone is invited. Further details will be emailed when the arrangements have been finalized.

Those in attendance were :)
Jeanine Eads Smith, Marilyn Lewis Moreira, Shirley Dye Baucom, Judy Setley Wright, Vic Digenti and his wife Evanne; Wanda Parsons and her husband; Rick Ferraro; Bob Edewaard; Patty Ebersold; Veronica Zeisler Cerri; David Albury and Margo; Carolyn Kirkpatrick Prescott; Nancy Anderson Erney; Jenny Carson; Torchy Lawson McClure; Sue Huffman Camaraire; Francine Camaraire Whitman; Linda Cox Harnage and her husband Al; Pat Mitchell LaPointe and her husband Leonard; my husband Walter Lee and me - Mickey Hanes Lee.

Our special thanks to all of those who came and we hope to see everyone in Gainesville in October 2010.

From Mickey Hanes Lee -
Yellowstone Gathering

Hi All!

Another fun time was had this past January 16-23, 2010 in Yellowstone National Park. Dixie Joyner, our resident "Travel Agent," put another gathering together with several of our classmates attending: Bob and Cheryl Chambless; Jeff and Cyndi MacNeir; Kay Kress Ullom and her friend Larry Vanderford; Walter and Mickey Lee, and a newcomer to the group, Mary Hemme from class of '61, and David Albury, Class of '62. Judy Van Gorder and Bev Weiss Shaffner planned to attend but Judy broke her ankle and Bev broke a leg. Would you believe Bev fell from a ladder while attempting to put Christmas light up!!! There were about 6 other attendees who were not classmates but they fit right in - just as crazy as the Stranahan crowd.

We rented a snow coach on two different days. One day we went to lower Yellowstone and the next we went to the upper Yellowstone areas. Many buffalo, elk, coyotes, wolves, long horn sheep, pronghorns, magpies, eagles were among some of nature's wild life sights that we were able to capture.

About half the group, at one time or another, went into the hot tubs to swim and enjoy the therapeutic stimulation of the hot mountain waters. We did see Old Faithful, who only sputtered rather than a huge forced flow from the geyser. Cyndi and Dixie attempted to make snow angels but by the time they got through, the angel looked like it was malformed. :)

One day we all went to Big Timber, a town about 90 miles away. There we enjoyed lunch at an old B&B hotel called The Grande. We got a grand tour of the hotel and if anyone has ever seen an old western from days gone by, this hotel was like being in that time zone. It was simply beautifully redone. Rates are very reasonable, depending if you want a private bathroom or one down the hall.

Another day was devoted to going to Cooke City, which is about 50 miles in another direction. It was a beautiful drive through Yellowstone to get there but once there, all we could do was eat. The road is not cleared of snow beyond that point so after lunch, we headed back to Gardiner.

It did snow while we were there but just enough to make it more beautiful. There was some ice under that powdery snow but we were fortunate that it didn't cause any of us any problems.

Most of the group left on Saturday 1/23.

Sebring "Gathering" - April 18 - 20, 2008
Post-Reunion Update!

Hello to All!!

The Highlands County classmates who put on the Sebring mini-reunion the weekend of April 18 -20 simply outdid themselves! Held at the Kenilworth Lodge they provided a wonderful weekend for the 100 or so attendees who traveled to the middle of the state for this event which involved 8 months of planning. From the massive amounts of hors d'ouvres contributed by the "Sebring Dragons" for the Friday evening party to the reasonably-priced cash bar to the excellent decorations, and the delicious Saturday evening buffet, it was all outstanding! There was even an Elvis impersonator for entertainment!

Attendees were welcomed by Sebring Dragons who manned a reception table the entire weekend and were given a "goodie bag" containing a program, a list of everyone there, brochures of local information and some orange and blue candies. Next to the table was a display of every classmate who attended! A sign over a door welcomed folks to the "Dragon's Den," a large room for gathering where there was an array of food and a well-stocked bar. The original Dragon's Den was nothing like this!!

Our Highlands County Classmates / Hosts were: Fred & Neyda Blake, Steve & Alayne (Wolverton) Bush, Sue (Huffman) Camaraire, Richard & Pat Crowley, Fran (Harwell) Oliver, Mike & Mary Swaine, Karin Kraai Wenger, Sam & Marilyn (Kalie) Wilkin, Alan & Jane Wolverton, Ken & Paulette (Lemieux) Krug, Robert & Francine (Camaraire) Whitman and Dane Jensen.

A special thanks to Karin Kraai Wenger for the lovely centerpieces which she designed and created; and to Diana Dodge for supplying little orange and blue candies with "Sebring Dragons - 2008" embedded in them.

Those who attended were Larry & Carole (Stiles) Adams, David Albury, Rick Albury, Ruth (Rigdon) Barnes, Walter & Alice (Drake) Berg, Bill & Barb Briley, Jim Brubaker, Helen (Merritt) Bryan, Dick Buntrock, Bob & Theo (Jones) Byrne, Bob & Cheryl Chambless, Sandy (Croft) Clowney, Richard & Pat Crowley, Gary & Sandy Dahlhofer, Mike & Carol Dew, Victor & Evanne DiGenti, Diana Dodge, Luckey Dodge, Sharon (Cookie Rupp) Fay, Mike & Laurette Fuller, John & Pat Gettinger, Mike & Mary Lou Grizzle, Jimmy Hall, Dane Hancock, Bob & Judy (Wilson) Handy, Jack Hartfield, Sam (Jane) Heede, Will & Bev Bryan Hoppe, Ron & Sandy Jones, Dixie Joyner, Karen lambert, John Lamon, Walt & Mickey Hanes Lee, Joann (Purvis) Long, Jeff & Cindi MacNeir, Ted & Alice Mallory, Judy (Van Gorder) Mazurek, Torchy (Lawson) McClure, Paul & Lynn Mize, Mike & Carol Mucci, Dennis O'Bea, Don & Becky O'Neal, Ann (Harvey) Ottaviano, Jerry & Jean (Gronquist) Ray, Doyle & Linda Raybon, Irene (Barth) Russ, Hal & Kathie (Koberstein) Schmidt, Buck & Suzanne (Spangler) Seeley, Bev (Weiss) Shaffner, Jackie Shaw, Kay (Kress) Ullom, and Doug & Maureen Wilson.

Karin and Marilyn said I should add, "Thanks to everyone who attended. We were overwhelmed by the turnout! Hope to see the rest of you at our 50th!"

And to them and all the Sebring Dragons - hats off for a wonderful weekend at a very reasonable cost! Well done!!

Walk For Life - Update

From Ruth Rigdon Barnes regarding the "Walk For Life" in honor of Randy Ward:
The "Walk For Life" raised $500,000.00 for the American Cancer Society. Our team was second in donations and we raised $17,450.00.

I want to thank everyone from Stranahan who contributed and those who took the time to e-mail me about their experiences and losses to cancer. We are certainly lucky to have such loving and caring friends from our high school days.
